Just like physical clutter in your living room, digital clutter—thousands of unread promotional emails, cluttered desktop icons, and 45 unused smartphone apps—subconsciously drains mental energy. Following this digital declutter checklist resets your devices in one focused hour.

Minute 0 to 20: Smartphone Streamlining

  • Delete unused apps: Scroll through your home screen and delete any app you haven't opened in the past 60 days.
  • Purge screenshot clutter: Search your photo library for "Screenshots" and delete obsolete receipts, memes, and parking spot photos.
  • Turn off non-human notifications: Disable banners, sounds, and badges for shopping apps, news alerts, and games. Only allow calls and direct messages from real people.

Minute 20 to 40: Inbox Cleanout

  • Mass unsubscribe from marketing emails: Search "unsubscribe" in your email search bar and remove yourself from store promotional blasts you never read.
  • Archive anything older than 30 days: If an email has sat unanswered for a month, you likely won't act on it. Mass-archive it to clear visual clutter without permanently deleting records.
  • Create 3 Core Folders: Sort remaining emails into: "Action Required", "Waiting on Response", and "Receipts/Reference".

Minute 40 to 60: Computer Desktop & Downloads

  • Wipe the Downloads folder: Move important documents into organized cloud storage folders (Google Drive, Dropbox, iCloud) and trash the rest.
  • Clean your browser bookmarks: Delete dead links, organize favorites into 4 clean folders, and close lingering browser tabs.
  • Empty trash bins on all devices: Empty your desktop Recycle Bin and iPhone "Recently Deleted" album to reclaim gigabytes of storage space.
